I moved to Berkeley, CA after my clerkship and have lived and worked here in the Bay Area ever since.  I am an energy regulatory attorney, and a partner at Ellison Schneider Harris & Donlan, a small energy/water firm with offices in Sacramento.

My clerkship was memorable and amazing.  I was the only female clerk for the only female justice on the court (remember those days?)  I clerked during an election year – so from the first month of my clerkship through the following April election, Justice Abrahamson was juggling her duties on the court and traveling around the state campaigning.  Diana Cook (Justice A’s secretary) and I would await calls from the county fair or the muskie hunt (ask about that stuffed fish . . . ), and marvel that we were exhausted just doing our jobs in Madison, while our boss seemed to be everywhere while also never missing an oral argument or conference or opinion drafting discussion.

I admire Justice Abrahamson’s strength and brilliant mind and absolute dedication to “getting it right” in every opinion and dissent.  I learned a lot that year – about how to be a good legal writer and thinker, and about how to prioritize and organize when there is simply not enough time to do everything that needs to be done, and how humor always helps when the situation is challenging and frustrating.  I’m grateful for having been a clerk in Justice A’s chambers, and for my friendship with her and Diana.
